Raúl cruz

Illustrator / Plastic Artist

Born in Mexico City. When he was little he enjoyed, like all children, drawing fantasy and science fiction scenes inspired by television and cinema. As a teenager he found a way to start to create a distinct identity for his designs, mixing science fiction and fantasy with the cultures and aesthetics of the pre-Hispanic peoples of Mexico, thus generating the world of his pictorial work, mixing past and present to create scenes of unpredictable futures. His work has been exhibited in many cities in Mexico and in different countries, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas and San Diego in the US, Havana and Santiago in Cuba, Basel in Switzerland, Trento and Milan in Italy, Valencia in Spain. His work has been published in multiple books and magazines specialising in Fantastic Art from various countries. He has been active for more than thirty years and several books have been published about his work and career.

Nació en la ciudad de México. Desde pequeño y como todo niño, gustaba de dibujar escenas de fantasía y ciencia ficción motivado por la televisión y el cine. Como adolescente encontró la forma de darle identidad a sus diseños, mezclando la ciencia ficción y fantasía con culturas y estéticas de los pueblos prehispánicos de México, generando así el concepto de su obra pictórica, mezclando pasado y presente para crear escenas de impredecibles futuros. Su obra ha sido exhibida en muchas ciudades de México y de diferentes países, Nueva York, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Dallas, San Diego en EU, La Habana y Santiago en Cuba, Basel en Suiza, Trento y Milán en Italia, Valencia en España. Su obra ha sido publicada en múltiples ediciones de libros y revistas especializadas en el Arte Fantástico, de diferentes países. Con más de 30 años de trabajo y varios libros publicados sobre su obra y trayectoria.

Claudia lopez

Claudia works as an academic in the Computer Science Department of the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), in Valparaíso, Chile. She obtained the degree of Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology at the University of Pittsburgh. She previously received the degree of Master of Science in Computer Engineering and a professional degree in Civil Computer Engineering at UTFSM. Her research focuses on the design and evaluation of social technologies through mixed methods, the dynamics of use and production of information in urban contexts and the implications of these on the civic participation of citizens. She currently directs two projects financed by ANID and teaches courses on Information Systems and People-centered Computing on undergraduate and graduate scientific and professional degrees.

Trabaja como académica del Departamento de Informática de la Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM), en Valparaíso, Chile. Obtuvo el grado de Ph.D. in Information Sciences and Technology en University of Pittsburgh. Previamente, recibió el grado de Magíster en Ciencias de Ingeniería Informática y el título profesional en Ingeniería Civil Informática en la UTFSM. Su investigación se enfoca en el diseño y evaluación de tecnologías sociales a través de métodos mixtos, las dinámicas de uso y producción de información en contextos urbanos, y las implicancias de éstas en la participación cívica de la ciudadanía. Actualmente dirige dos proyectos financiados por ANID, y dicta cursos de Sistemas de Información y Computación centrada en Personas en pregrado y postgrado científico y profesional.

Montenegro Fisher are Luna Montenegro and Adrian Fisher, artists, poets and film-makers based in London exploring ideas of transformation and collaboration. They make visual & sonic arts, performance, film, books and curatorial projects, experimenting at the intersections between the poetic and the politic. mmmmm.org.uk

alberto chimal

Born in 1970 in Toluca, Alberto Chimal now resides in Mexico City with his wife and fellow writer Raquel Castro and a cat named Primo. He obtained his Master’s degree in Comparative Literature from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He is the author of the novels Los esclavos (2009) and La torre y el jardín (2012), as well as numerous short story collections, including Gente del mundo (1998), Éstos son los días (2004), Grey (2006), Los atacantes (2013), and Manos de lumber (2018). According to Chimal, most of his works are akin to what Bruce Sterling calls slipstream fiction and deal with the fantastic in somewhat strange ways. In Verónica Murguía’s words, Chimal is a “storyteller who can’t give up, to our delight, the desire to describe what can only be created with words.” Marco Kunz considers him “one of the most versatile and unpredictable writers of current Spanish-American literature.” Chimal’s second novel, La torre y el jardín, was a finalist for the 2013 Premio Internacional de Novela Rómulo Gallegos. Edmundo Paz Soldán opines that it “should become one of the first classics of Latin American literature of this century.” “A Young Man’s Fortune” is a translation of “Fortuna,” which appeared in his 2001 short story collection El país de los hablistas.

ramiro sanchiz

Ramiro Sanchiz is a Uruguayan writer and journalist. He was born in Montevideo in 1978. He began publishing in science fiction and fantasy magazines such as Diaspar, Galileo, Axxón and Ad Astra in 1994. In 1997 he began studying literature and philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences of the Universidad de la República in Montevideo and soon after began a musical career in which he worked as a guitarist and composer. He published his first novel, 01.lineal, in 2008, as two of his stories also appeared in two outstanding anthologies. He’s published many books since then, including storybooks, novellas and novels. Among these publications we find, for example, the short story collections Del otro lado y Algunos de los otros, Los otros libros and En el fondo, as well as the novellas Perséfone (2009), Vampiros porteños, sombras solitarias (2010), Nadie recuerda a Mlejnas (2011), Los viajes (2012), Historia de la ciencia ficción uruguaya (2013), El orden del mundo (2014, winner of the National Prize for Narrative), Las imitaciones (2016), Verde (2016) and the recent La expansión del universo (2018). He is also the author of a collection of essays, Caída libre (2017), on the group La Trampa’s eponymously titled album, while he continues to publish in magazines like Lento and The Buenos Aires Review. His stories have been chosen for two of the annual selections of the best Latin American science fiction stories published by the Asociación Española de Fantasía, Ciencia Ficción y Terror (the Spanish Association of Fantasy, Science Fiction and Horror). His stories have been translated into English, French, German and Italian. Sanchiz’s work is mostly written in the fantasy and science fiction styles, but he has also dabbled in “dirty realism”. Cyberpunk dystopias, the psychological thriller, metaphysical speculations and the intersection of what is known as “high” and “popular” culture are all explored in the conjunction of these genres. By 2013 Sanchiz had established the “Stahl project” at the centre of his work, which he defines as a “macronovela” composed of different stories, with the protagonist Federico Stahl as a unifying element with each text in the project describing a possible life of that character, the project exploring the idea of narrative across multiple and parallel worlds. He is the animator of the aparato de vuelo rasante (low-flying apparatus) blog. He thinks that Uruguayan narrative is going through an exceptional moment right now, richer than that achieved during the last two decades of the 20th century.

Ramiro Sanchiz, es escritor y periodista uruguayo. Nació en Montevideo en 1978. Comenzó a publicar en 1994 en revistas de ciencia ficción y fantasía tales como Diaspar, Galileo, Axxón y Ad Astra. En 1997 comenzó estudios de literatura y filosofía en la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad de la República e inició poco después una carrera musical en la que se desempeñó como guitarrista y compositor. Del 2008, año en que relatos suyos aparecen en dos destacadas antología, data su primera novela 01.lineal. A ella le han sucedido una veintena de libros, entre libros de cuentos, novelas cortas y novelas. También, cuentos de su autoría han sido traducidos al inglés, francés, alemán y al italiano. La obra de Ramiro Sanchiz puede ser adscrita mayoritariamente a la llamada literatura fantástica, y a la de ciencia ficción, pero también ha incursionado en el realismo sucio. En ellas puede concretarse la distopía cyberpunk, el thriller psicológico y la especulación metafísica, y el entrecruzamiento de lo que se conoce como “alta cultura” y la “cultura popular”. Para 2013 Sanchiz ya había establecido al “proyecto Stahl” como orientación fundamental de su narrativa, definido por él mismo como una “macronovela” compuesta por diferentes relatos, con el protagonista Federico Stahl como elemento unificador y según el cual cada texto, se referiría a una vida posible de ese personaje, de modo que el proyecto completo podría inscribirse en la categoría de narrativa de mundos múltiples y paralelos. Animador del blog aparato de vuelo rasante. Piensa que la narrativa uruguaya vive un momento excepcional, más rico que lo que pudieron ofrecer las dos últimas décadas del siglo XX.

Andrés Maximiliano Tello

Andrés is a sociologist and PhD academic in the Department of Sociology at the Universidad de Playa Ancha and researcher at the Center for Advanced Studies of the UPLA. He is a member of the political-publishing collective Communes. His co-editing of Descampado. Ensayos sobre las contiendas universitarias (2012) and Subversión Foucault: Usos teóricopolíticos (2019), Diálogos interrumpidos entre Foucault y Rancière (2016) and his monograph Anarchivismo: Tecnologías políticas del archivo (2018) stand out among his published works. He has also written various articles on contemporary philosophy, social theory and new technologies.

Claudio Celis Bueno

Claudio is an academic at the Instituto de Humanidades de la Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (Chile). He is a doctor in Critical Theory from the University of Cardiff (United Kingdom). He has conducted postdoctoral research in Chile and the United Kingdom on the relationship between technology, media and society. He is the author of The Attention Economy: Labor, Time and Power in Cognitive Capitalism (2016). He has recently completed a Fondecyt-funded research project on the link between images and power in the age of algorithmic vision.

Claudio es académico del Instituto de Humanidades de la Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (Chile). Es Doctor en Teoría Crítica de la Universidad de Cardiff (Reino Unido). Ha realizado investigaciones postdoctorales en Chile y el Reino Unido sobre la relación entre tecnología, medios y sociedad. soledad Véliz

Soledad Véliz is a psychologist. She has published science fiction stories in anthologies such as Años Luz, Mapa Estelar de la Ciencia Ficción en Chile (2006), Alucinaciones.TXT (2007) and the fanzine Fobos. Her latest story appears in the anthology Lo sintético: Narraciones sobre robots, seres poshumanos e inteligencias artificiales edited by Salvador Luis Raggio.

Soledad Véliz es psicóloga, ha publicado cuentos de ciencia ficción en antologías tales como Años Luz, Mapa Estelar de la Ciencia Ficción en Chile (2006), Alucinaciones.TXT (2007) y el fanzine Fobos. Macarena Areco

Macarena Areco is a journalist, graduate, master and doctor in Literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She has published around sixty articles and book chapters on Chilean and Latin American fiction of the 20th and 21st centuries. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Letters of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Director of Extensión and Continuing Education and Director of the UC Center for Chilean Literature Studies (CELICH). She is the author of books including Cartografía de la novela chilena reciente (2015), Acuarios y fantasmas. Imaginarios de espacio y de sujeto en la narrativa argentina, chilena y mexicana reciente (2017) and Bolaño constelaciones: literatura, sujetos territorios (2020) and co-editor, with Patricio Lizama, of Biografía y textualidades, naturaleza y subjetividad. Ensayos sobre la obra de María Luisa Bombal (2015).

Macarena Areco es periodista, licenciada, magíster y doctora en Literatura por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Ha publicado alrededor de sesenta artículos y capítulos de libro sobre narrativa chilena e hispanoamericana del siglo XX y reciente. Actualmente es Profesora Asociada de la Facultad de Letras de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Directora de Extensión y Educación continua y Directora del Centro UC de Estudios de Literatura Chilena (CELICH). Sofía Rosa

Sofía Rosa is a writer, teacher of literature and a doctoral candidate in literature from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, writing a project entitled Metáforas ambientales del Antropoceno: ficciones literarias del Cono Sur. She has published poetry, fiction and research in various media and formats; she recently released her first single “Condición transparente” with musician and composer Michell Moreno. She is part of the editorial team of Humanidades Ambientales para América Latina, a platform for dialogue and collaborative thought.

Sofía Rosa es escritora, profesora de literatura y candidata a doctora en letras por la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile con su investigación Metáforas ambientales del Antropoceno: ficciones literarias del Cono Sur. Ha publicado poesía, narrativa y los avances de su investigación en diversos medios y formatos; recientemente lanzó su primer single “Condición transparente” junto al músico y compositor Michell Moreno. Carolina Gainza

Carolina Gainza C. is Sociologist and Master in Latin American Studies (University of Chile) and Phd in Hispanic Languages and Literatures (University of Pittsburgh). She is associate professor at the School of Creative Literature and director of the Digital Lab at Universidad Diego Portales (Santiago, Chile). Her main research interests are related to digital culture and digital literature in Latin America, in which she analyses the contemporary modes of cultural production and digital aesthetic experiences in the 21st century. Currently, she is the principal investigator of the research project “Critical Cartography of Latin American Digital Literature” (2018- 2021). She has published more than twenty journal articles and book chapters, along with two books: “Narrativas y poéticas digitales en América Latina. Producción literaria en el capitalismo informacional” (Ebook, Centro de Cultura Digital, Ciudad de México, 2018; Editorial Cuarto Propio, Santiago, 2018) and “La Batalla de Artes y Humanidades” (Ebook, 2020, coauthored with Matías Ayala).

wolfgang bongers

Wolfgang Bongers holds a PhD in Literature and Intermediality at University of Siegen, Germany. At present, he is Associate Professor and Research Director at Facultad de Letras, Catholic University of Chile. As responsable researcher, he has directed several nationally funded research projects (Fondecyt regular) and has coordinated international research projects. His principal work areas are the impact of audiovisual and digital media in Latin American Literature and culture, and the relation between archives and memories in XX and XXI centuries. He is author of numerous essays in the fields of literary and film critique, cultural studies and the theory of media. He also published the books Interferencias del Archivo: cortes estéticos y políticos en cine y literatura. Argentina y Chile (Peter Lang, 2016); Prismas del cine latinoamericano (ed., Cuarto propio, 2012); Archivos i letrados. Escritos sobre cine en Chile: 1908-1940. (ed., Cuarto propio, 2011)

Wolfgang Bongers es Doctor en Literatura e Intermedialidad de la Universidad de Siegen, Alemania. Actualmente es Profesor Asociado y Director de Investigación y Posgrado en la Facultad de Letras, Universidad Católica de Chile. Como investigador responsable, ha dirigido proyectos Fondecyt y ha coordinado proyectos internacionales de investigación. Sus principales líneas de trabajo son el impacto de los medios audiovisuales y digitales en la literatura y el campo cultural latinoamericano y la relación entre archivos y memorias del siglo XX y XXI. Es autor de numerosos ensayos y estudios en los campos de la crítica literaria y cinematográfica, los estudios culturales y la teoría de los medios. También ha publicado los siguientes libros: Interferencias del Archivo: cortes estéticos y políticos en cine y literatura. richard parker

Richard Parker is a poet, academic, editor and printer. His poetry publications include the forthcoming Space Odes (Boiler House, 2021), from The Mountain of California… (Openned, 2010), The Traveller and the Defence of Heaven (Veer, 2012) and R.T.A. Parker’s 99 Sonnets About Evil (Canary Woof, 2015). His work, which includes poetry about sport, travel writing and science fiction, addresses questions of place and the environment through investigations of poetic form and process. He has written various critical prose pieces on twentieth-century poetry, with a particular emphasis on American modernism and the New American Poetry. He has edited three volumes of essays on Ezra Pound and is currently working on a monograph on the modernists during the 1960s. He is also the editor and printer of the award-winning Crater Press pamphlet and book series, publishing mostly letterpress pamphlets of some of the best new British poetry.

Richard Parker es poeta, académico, editor e impresor. Sus publicaciones de poesía incluyen Space Odes (Boiler House, 2021), From the Mountain of California… (Openned, 2010), The Traveller and the Defense of Heaven (Veer, 2012) y R.T.A. Su obra incluye poesía sobre deporte, escritura de viajes y ciencia ficción, aborda cuestiones de lugar y medio ambiente a través de investigaciones de la forma y los procesos poéticos. Ha escrito varias piezas críticas en prosa sobre la poesía del siglo XX, con un énfasis particular en el modernismo estadounidense y la nueva poesía estadounidense. Felipe Cussen

Felipe Cussen is a writer, musician and researcher. He obtained a doctorate in Humanities from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, and is currently a professor at the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile. His research focuses on experimental literature, the relationships between literature, music and visual arts, and mysticism. Together with Marcela Labraña and Megumi Andrade he founded La Oficina de la nada. He has collected miscellaneous texts on poetry and popular culture in Opinología (Cumshot, 2012) and La cultura ententeda (Desktop Publishing, 2019). He collaborates with the musician Richi Tunacola in the duo Cussen & Luna, belongs to the Writers Forum and Collective Task, and was a member of the Orquesta de poetas. Joaquín Jiménez Barrera

Joaquín Jiménez Barrera teaches language and literature. He is a graduate in Hispanic Literature at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and will soon receive a Master's degree from the same institution. His interests include science fiction, cyberculture, posthumanism and the relationship between capitalism and subjectivity. He is currently dedicated to the study and research of Latin American science fiction.

Joaquín Jiménez Barrera es profesor de Lengua y Literatura, licenciado en Letras Hispánicas y próximamente estudiante de magíster en Literatura de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Sus intereses se centran en la ciencia ficción, la cibercultura, el posthumanismo y la relación entre capitalismo y subjetividad. Actualmente se dedica al estudio e investigación de la ciencia ficción latinoamericana.

mario ponce

Mario Ponce received his Ph.D. degree in Sciences Mathématiques from the Université Paris Sud in 2007, under the direction of prominent mathematician Jean-Christophe Yoccoz. He has been part of the School of Mathematics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile since 2007, holding post-doctoral and professorial positions. His area of research is Dynamic Systems, with some interactions with Geometry. His academic work has been marked by the search for mechanisms for the dissemination of mathematics. He actively participates in the organization of mathematics Olympiads, he is a regular speaker at scientific conferences for young people, schools and teachers’ meetings, as well as other settings. In 2015, he was awarded the Halmos-Ford Award from the Mathematical Association of America for his expository excellence.

El profesor Mario Ponce recibió su grado de Doctor en Sciences Mathématiques de la Université Paris Sud en 2007, bajo la dirección del destacado matemático Jean-Christophe Yoccoz. Forma parte de la Facultad de Matemáticas de la UC desde 2007, desempeñando posiciones de post doctorado y de profesor. Su área de investigación son los Sistemas Dinámicos, con algunas interacciones con la Geometría. Su labor académica ha estado marcada por la búsqueda de mecanismos de divulgación de la matemática. Participa activamente en la organización de olimpiadas de matemáticas, es un charlista habitual en congresos científicos para jóvenes, colegios, reuniones de profesores entre otras. El año 2015 fue galardonado con el premio Halmos-Ford de la Mathematical Association of America por su excelencia expositiva.

Tomás has been an assistant professor at the Institute of Instituto de Arquitectura Avanzada de Cataluña and a visiting professor at the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University and at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey. Co-founder of Fab Lab Santiago and the Fundación Diseño Distribuido. Co-curator of “The Counterculture Room,” the Chile Pavilion at the London Design Biennale 2016 and co-organizer of the 13th World Meeting of Fab Labs 2017 with the theme “Fabricating Society”. His research and work focuses on the impact of digital technologies on society; digitization for the development of sustainable ecosystems and communities; computer hardware systems and distributed digital design and manufacturing. He has presented and published on these topics at various conferences, events and in magazines in various countries. He is currently director of the Fab Lab Austral UC Station in Puerto Williams, Research Fellow of Fab Lab Barcelona-Fab City, and academic at the School of Design of the Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile.

Actualmente es director de la Estación Fab Lab Austral UC en Puerto Williams, Research Fellow del Fab Lab Barcelona- Fab City, y académico de la Escuela de Diseño de la Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile.

Martín Tironi

Sociologist at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile with a Masters from Paris Descartes, PhD at the Center de Sociologie de l’Innovation (CSI), Escuela de Minas de Paris, and a Post-Doctorate from the same institution. In 2018 he was Visiting Fellows at the Centre for Invention and Social Process at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is an associate researcher at the Centro de Desarrollo Urbano Sustentable (CEDEUS) and has been the researcher responsible for a Fondecyt Project (No. 1180062) on digital datafication processes and a Fondecyt Project (No. 11140042) on the circulation and development of the concept of “Smart Cities”; and a VRI-UC project on interspecies design. He has exhibited an installation entitled “Cenizas de coexistencia,” Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Bienal de Artes Mediales (2019) and is curating the Chile Pavilion for the London Design Bienale (2021). He is a member of the International Advisory Board of the Dis-positions: Troubling Methods and Theory in STS Series, Bristol University Press; he is on the Editorial committee of ARQ magazine and Revista Diseña.
